GLT STEM Summer Workshop and Hackathon with Ward F Councilman

July 2022, Girlz Love Tech (GLT) hosted a STEM-focused summer workshop at the Ward F Councilman’s location, featuring a hackathon that challenged students to develop innovative solutions aimed at improving the Jersey City community. As part of the workshop, participants visited the Microsoft Research Garage Center, where they were taught the ideation methodology by the Director of Hackathons. Using these skills, students took their ideas from concept to prototype. At the end of the workshop, they returned to Jersey City to present their projects, demonstrating their technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities. In addition to awarding scholarships to standout participants, we also provided guidance from a mental health coach and a soft skills coach to help students develop essential life skills. This workshop combined hands-on STEM education with personal development, empowering students to excel both academically and in future careers.
