On March 28th, I had the honor of participating in a Women in Tech panel discussion at The Garage, hosted in partnership with Avanade and their Women in Tech Scholarship Program at NJIT. This event brought together influential women in STEM to share their experiences, insights, and advice with students and early-career professionals aspiring to thrive in the tech industry.

Why Conversations Like This Matter

The tech industry has made strides toward diversity, but women especially women of color are still underrepresented in leadership and technical roles. Events like this create space for honest conversations about the challenges we face, the opportunities available, and how we can work together to build a more inclusive future in STEM.

Key Takeaways from the Discussion

  • Breaking Barriers: Every woman on the panel shared personal experiences about overcoming bias and navigating the industry with confidence.

  • The Power of Mentorship: Whether it’s finding a mentor or becoming one, support networks are critical to success in tech.

  • Career Growth & Leadership: We explored strategies for developing technical expertise, advocating for career advancement, and staying ahead in a rapidly evolving field.

  • Scholarships & Opportunities: Avanade’s Women in Tech Scholarship Program at NJIT was highlighted as a game-changer, providing financial and career support to young women pursuing STEM degrees.

Looking Ahead: The Call to Action

Representation in tech isn’t just about filling seats it’s about empowering the next generation to lead, innovate, and transform industries. As we continue advocating for gender equity in STEM, it’s critical that we create more opportunities for women to enter, thrive, and lead in technical roles.

A special thank you to Avanade, NJIT, and BAM ERG for organizing such a meaningful discussion. I left feeling energized, inspired, and committed to ensuring that more women have the resources, mentorship, and visibility they need to succeed in tech.
